Four Ringgold Kiwanis club members were awarded this prestigious Kiwanis award at the recent annual club banquet. Following is information explaining this award and a description of the accomplishments of the four club members who earned it.
About the Award
In the years following Kiwanis International's 1915 founding, a young George F. Hixson burst onto the Kiwanis International level. Hixson was elected president of our organization in 1916. His leadership was so highly respected that he was elected president the following year. this is an unequaled honor, as no other person in history has held the office of president for two consecutive years.
It was with regard for Hixsonís unprecedented contribution to Kiwanis International that on October 1, 1983, the Kiwanis International Foundation established the George F. Hixson Fellowship. Contributions to this fellowship go into an endowment that supports service projects, which provide for the needs of children, disaster relief, and support of the Kiwanis-family.
The Hixson recipient is a person who dares to dream big dreams and set big goals. One who is willing to pay the price, make the sacrifice, try the difficult and attempt the impossible.
The recipient might not solve all the problems of their community, but will give, provide, help and re-emphasize the things in life that really count. This person is a part of a group of people that are committed to build not break, lift not lower, love not leave, nurture not neglect, respect not resent, to work - not wait to make our aging feel needed, our underprivileged feel accepted, our youth feel important and their community feel proud to be touched by Kiwanis. Because as members of Kiwanis International, we build, we care and we believe!
